Xiaoxuan Shi

Recognized for her beautiful timbre, delicate playing and excellent musicality, Chinese-born violinist Xiaoxuan Shi is a rising star on today’s classical music scene who enjoys a multi-faceted career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician. 

Xiaoxuan has won numerous international and national competitions including the sixth prize of Singapore International Violin Competition in 2018, the Grand Prize of Adelphi Yong Artist international Competition, the First Prize of New York Vivo International Music Competition, the First Prize of Chengdu Guang Ya International Violin Competition in 2017, the First Prize of the Singapore National Violin Competition in 2013, and the Third Prize of the China National Violin Competition in 2009. 

Xiaoxuan has appeared as soloist with the Adelphi Orchestra, Singapore Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and served in leading positions in Hartford Symphony Orchestra, New Haven Chamber Symphony, Aspen Chamber Symphony, Japan MMCJ Festival Orchestra and Yale Philharmonia. She has worked under conductors including John Nelson, Robert Spano, Alan Gilbert, James Gaffigan, Nicholas Mcgegan, and Ludovic Morlot. She has also collaborated with world-renowned artists, sharing the stage with Shlomo Mintz, Gil Shaham, Renaud Capuçon, Robert Levin, Qian Zhou, Robert Chen, Jennifer Gilbert, and Robert Mealy. 

Xiaoxuan has performed at world-renowned concert halls including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Morse Recital Hall, Singapore Esplanade concert hall, Victoria Concert Hall, Tokyo Suntory Hall, Minato Mirai Hall, and Shanghai Oriental Art Center. 

Xiaoxuan began studying violin at the age of five, and revealed her extraordinary musical talent at a very young age. At the age of ten, her demonstration performances were recorded in China's best-selling "Children's Violin Tutorial" series. In the same year, she entered the primary school attached to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied with Fang Lei and Zheng Shisheng. In 2009, she was selected to participate in China-Germany cultural exchange program and perform in Stuttgart, Munich and Salzburg.  

Xiaoxuan holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory; Master’s degree from The Juilliard School as a recipient of Dorothy Delay Scholarship and Juilliard Scholarship; Master of Music Arts degree from Yale School of Music sponsored by Alec Templeton Scholarship, Alec Templeton Fellowship and Marx Family Fellowship. Her teachers include Prof. Qian Zhou, Catherine Cho, Hyo Kang, Lisa Kim and Glenn Dicterow.
